PLAY A SIMPLE MELODY – THE GENIUS OF IRVING BERLIN

One of America’s most prolific composers, Berlin enjoyed a fifty year career as a songwriter and yet plucked out most of his endearing melodies using only the black keys of the piano, having never had any formal musical training. This special Irving Berlin program features many of Berlin’s most beloved songs like Putting On The Ritz, Always, Stepping Out With My Baby, Blue Skies, How Deep Is The Ocean, A Pretty Girl Is Like A Melody, Anything You Can Do, as well as many other film and Broadway favorites.

Porter is one of the few American composers who wrote the music and lyrics to most of his compositions and his style was said to absolutely define sophistication, the perfect melding of melody, meter and rhyme. This special Cole Porter program features many of Porter's Broadway and film hits like Begin The Beguine (Jubilee) , Anything Goes, Blow Gabriel Blow, (Porter loved Ethel Merman ’ s delivery of this song on Broadway), I Love Paris (Can-Can), So In Love (Kiss Me Kate), My Heart Belongs to Daddy (Leave It To Me) as well as many other favorites .

With over 1400 songs in his repertoire, Wes Winters has achieved a virtuoso standing, both vocally and instrumentally, around the world, and displays an innate musical talent possessed by very few.

IT’S SWING! SO GET UP AND DANCE!

Swing Music swept the nation between World War I and II and was revived in the 1980’s, and still remains one of America’s most treasured musical art forms. This program explores the lively, syncopated, and often jazzy songs that was all the rage in the 30’s and 40’s... the big bands, the fabulous vocalists like Helen Ward and Ella Fitzgerald and the thrilling dances like the Charleston, Jitterbug and Lindy Hop.
